- 1962 : Mid Day Meals program (MDM) started by some states.
- 1970 : Special Nutrition Program was started. The program scopes were broadened to provide nutrition supplementation to preschool children ,pregnant women and nursing mothers, primarily from tribal & backward areas and urban slums.
- 1974 : MDM became a part of the Minimum Needs Program.
- 1975 : ICDS was started by the Government of India on October 2nd ,1975 in a small way covering only 33 blocks , including 3 projects in U.P.
- 1990 : The world bank joined the program sanctioning US $106.00 million for the project ICDS-I covering the states of Andhra & Orissa.
- 1993 : The world bank took up another two states (Madhya Pradesh & Bihar) involving a participation of US $ 194.00 million with more or less the same objectives but different target based upon the individual state's needs.
- 1995 : Program covered 3,663 blocks and reached 3.8 million expectant & nursing mothers children (0-6 years of age).
- 1999 : World Bank assisted ICDS-III programme launched in the state.
- 1997 : Balika Samriddhi Yojana (BSY) launched in the state.
- 1999 : Kishori Shakti Yojana(KSY) launched in the state.
- 2001 : PRADHAN MANTRI GRAMODAYA YOJANA (PMGY), 187 new Child developments projects started , the total number of projects in the state reach 815.
- 2002 : RASHTRIYA POSHAHAR MISSION, launched in the state.
- 2003 : 21 additional new Child developments projects started , the total number of projects in the state reach 835 with 106111 AWCs.
- 2004 : Honararia of the AWWs and AWHs increased by Rs. 200 and Rs 100 respectively.
- 2005 : 32188 new AWCs sanctioned in the state making the total number of AWCs to be 138299.
- 2006-07 : 13170 AWCs sanctioned in state making the total AWCs to be 151469.
- 2008-09 : In addition to the 151469 AWCs ,14604 New additional AWCs and 22186 Additional MINI AWCs are sanctioned by GOI in December ,2008.The Opening of these additional AWCs/MINI AWCs are in the process.
